3D Printing - Smoother prints with Cura - Acceleration and Jerk Control

I was getting a lot of vibration at the top of my Z-axis rods while printing with my CR10s. This information will also help if you are getting layer shifts. Think about it like this. You are in your car driving around town and all you have is full throttle and full breaks. It's going to be a bumpy ride. This does not affect the top speed. Just the start and stop. Acceleration and jerk control lets you ease on the throttle and ease on the breaks. You still get to full throttle and full breaks. This is what's happening with the steppers while printing. By trying different settings I found it didn't affect my total print time much. Maybe more so on smaller prints than larger prints. Compared to driving around town and driving on the highway.

First, you need to enable the features. In Cura, click on "Settings" at the top and select "Configure Settings Visibility" in the drop-down menu.  This will bring up the Preferences box and you should already have &quo…

3D Printer Basic Mechanics - How to get smoother, more accurate prints with your 3D printer

EdKnowsTech: 3D Printer Basic Mechanics - How to get smoother, more accurate prints with your 3D printer

I am documenting this experience after upgrading the wheels and bearings on my Creality CR10s. I had to completely readjust all of the axis guide wheels. I did my research and took my time with the upgrade. I was pleasantly surprised with the end results.

There are many options for 3D printers. The CR10/CR10s is a “Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM)” printer which is the most common for the consumer market. FDM printers all have the same basic functioning mechanics. The CR10 uses bearings and wheels to guide the carriages along the different axis as do many FDM 3D printers. If the mechanics of your printer are not dialed in properly you will experience reduced print quality among other issues. Getting familiar on how to adjust the mechanics of your printer will help you open its full potential and help you keep it that way. It has been my experience working in the technology field for o…
